Lown Institute Awards BCH an ‘A’ Rating
The Lown Institute has awarded Beatrice Community Hospital an “A” rating for social responsibility. The Lown Institute awarded BCH “A” ratings in Equity, Value, and Outcomes on its 2025-26 Lown Institute Hospitals Index, recognizing BCH as one of the most socially responsible hospitals in America.
With more than 3,500 hospitals measured by Lown, fewer than 5 percent achieved this honor roll status. Only 45 Critical Access Hospitals received the top grade out of 807 Critical Access Hospitals nationwide.
These are independent rankings and hospitals do not apply or pay to be listed.
The Equity category combines assessments of community benefit spending, pay equity and inclusivity to evaluate a hospital’s commitment to community health and civic leadership. The Value of Care category reflects a hospital’s ability to avoid unnecessary care and to achieve good outcomes without overspending. The patient Outcomes category reflects a hospital's performance as it relates to its patients' health and experience of care. This category is calculated from three components: clinical outcomes, patient safety and patient satisfaction.
Vikas Saini, MD, president of the Lown Institute, said his company’s goal is to support socially responsible hospitals.
"Hospitals are facing unprecedented political and financial challenges," Dr. Vikas Saini said. "In this uncertain environment, it's more important than ever to support the socially responsible hospitals who are delivering high-quality care to all in their community."
The 2025-26 Lown Hospitals Index for Social Responsibility is the only ranking to combine metrics of health equity and value of care alongside patient outcomes - offering a holistic view of hospitals as total community partners. Lown’s sixth annual Index evaluates hospitals on over 50 measures, including novel metrics such as community benefit, racial inclusivity, and avoidance of overuse.
