    Robotic-Assisted Knee Replacement

Dr. Weichel now offers a robotic-assisted solution for knee replacement surgery. Robotic-assisted technology uses real-time data of each patient’s unique anatomy that may provide improved range of motion, reduced pain, and quicker recovery compared to traditional techniques. The VELYS Robotic-Assisted Solution works alongside the ATTUNE Knee System, an innovative implant designed to help improve stability and reduce pain. The ATTUNE Knee supports better range of motion and helps prevent the unstable feeling some patients may experience during everyday activities, such as bending and walking up and down stairs. • Anterior approach is a technique in which surgeons make an incision at the front of the hip instead of through the buttocks or side of the hip and work between the muscles to keep them intact, rather than cutting through them, which is common with traditional hip replacement. With anterior approach surgery, some patients are reporting:
            • Less pain after surgery
            • Fewer pain medications needed
            • Shorter hospital stays
            • Faster recovery
The anterior approach also gives the surgeon the ease of intraoperative imaging. A specific table is used during the procedure that allows the surgeon to take X-rays during surgery. This advantage lends itself to a more precise positioning of hip implants, thus producing a more natural feeling hip. In addition, the anterior approach gives patients the ability to begin their post-surgery activity without hip precautions otherwise required by most hip approaches. This benefit allows patients the potential for a faster recovery and quicker return to normal activities. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call Dr. Weichel at 402-228-5417 to discuss whether anterior approach hip replacement surgery is right for you.
          • Some patients who undergo a total hip or knee joint replacement surgery may qualify for same day discharge. In this case a patient has surgery, sees a physical therapist and is able to be discharged the same day to recuperate at home.
For more information or to schedule an appointment, call Dr. Weichel at 402-228-5417 to discuss whether same day discharge is right for you.
          • Dr. Weichel sees patients at the Pawnee Couty Memorial Hospital Specialty Clinic twice a month. To schedule an appointment, call the Beatrice Orthopedics Clinic at 402-228-5417.
