  • Anterior approach is a technique in which surgeons make an incision at the front of the hip instead of through the buttocks or side of the hip and work between the muscles to keep them intact, rather than cutting through them, which is common with traditional hip replacement. With anterior approach surgery, some patients are reporting:
    • Less pain after surgery
    • Fewer pain medications needed
    • Shorter hospital stays
    • Faster recovery
The anterior approach also gives the surgeon the ease of intraoperative imaging. A specific table is used during the procedure that allows the surgeon to take X-rays during surgery. This advantage lends itself to a more precise positioning of hip implants, thus producing a more natural feeling hip.In addition, the anterior approach gives patients the ability to begin their post-surgery activity without hip precautions otherwise required by most hip approaches. This benefit allows patients the potential for a faster recovery and quicker return to normal activities. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call Dr. Weichel at 402-228-5417 to discuss whether anterior approach hip replacement surgery is right for you.
  • Some patients who undergo a total hip or knee joint replacement surgery may qualify for same day discharge. In this case a patient has surgery, sees a physical therapist and is able to be discharged the same day to recuperate at home.
For more information or to schedule an appointment, call Dr. Weichel at 402-228-5417 to discuss whether same day discharge is right for you.
  • We offer iovera treatment for pain. The iovera treatment works by applying targeted cold to a peripheral nerve. A precise cold zone is formed under the skin -- cold enough to immediately prevent the nerve from sending pain signals without causing damage to surrounding structures. The effect on the nerve is temporary, providing pain relief until the nerve regenerates and function is restored.
  • Dr. Weichel sees patients at the Pawnee County Memorial Hospital/Rural Health Clinic, 600 I Street in Pawnee City. Clinic is held the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. No referral is necessary. To schedule an appointment, call the Pawnee City Clinic at 402-852-4057 or the Beatrice Clinic at 402-228-5417.
