Women's Health

At the Beatrice Women & Children’s Clinic we offer healthcare for women by women, which means you’re in the hands of people who intimately understand a woman’s unique healthcare needs.

Gynecological Care

We provide routine annual examinations to evaluate overall health and to address any concerns you may have. Examinations may include preventive care or treatment for an existing issue. Our clinic provides treatment for chronic infections, help with menopausal symptoms, information about family planning, contraception, treatment of cervical pre-cancers, abnormal abdominal bleeding, and a variety of other types of care.

Routine Screenings

Routine screenings are important. We recommend the following screenings as a general guideline for women based on their age. However, every woman is unique. Please make sure to speak with your doctor about any symptoms you are experiencing, or if you have a family history of disease.

  • Cervical Health – We encourage women to have their first pelvic exam at age 21. A Pap test is an important part of a cervical exam and helps to screen for cervical cancer. After learning more about you and your history, we can recommend how frequently you need to be examined, but many women have a pap smear every 3-5 years.
  • Breast Health – We recommend self-breast exams monthly, with regular mammograms after age 40. However, your provider will work closely with you to develop a personal exam schedule based on your medical history and special circumstances.

Preconception Planning and Fertility Services

We encourage women to plan early for pregnancy by working with their provider to address issues related to nutrition, lifestyle, immunizations and overall health. Our providers can counsel you on healthy preconception, as well as address fertility concerns or issues.

Pregnancy & Childbirth

Beatrice Women & Children’s Clinic offers complete obstetric care as well as family planning and fertility services. Pregnancy and motherhood is a special time, and having a provider who is caring, attentive and skilled will help you be more relaxed and comfortable. Our providers will be with you throughout your journey from pre-pregnancy planning through birth and postpartum care.

Prenatal Care

It is critical that mothers and their growing babies receive exceptional care during pregnancy. Our prenatal care program includes helpful guidance on pregnancy health and well-being, as well as careful monitoring of mother and baby health. A typical prenatal schedule would be:

  • Weeks 4 to 28: 1 visit per month (every 4 weeks)
  • Weeks 28 to 36: 2 visits per month (every 2 to 3 weeks)
  • Weeks 36 to birth: 1 visit per week

We have the expertise and compassion to help you -- and your growing baby -- enjoy a healthy and happy pregnancy.

Labor and Delivery

At Beatrice Women’s & Children’s Clinic, your baby will be delivered by your provider, who will be familiar with you and your growing baby. Our providers deliver at Beatrice Community Hospital & Health Center, which provides comprehensive, family-centered obstetric care for new infants and mothers.

In the end, there is perhaps no more special a moment than hearing the first cries of new life. At Beatrice Women’s & Children’s Clinic, we specialize in the entire pregnancy and childbirth experience, focusing on making it as smooth, safe and comfortable as possible. So not only are our doctors and midwives highly experienced — delivering more than 200 babies a year — our facilities, too, are specially designed to offer the utmost in convenience and comfort. In fact, if you’re pregnant or planning on having a baby, we would love to show you around. Call 402-228-3117 to arrange a private tour.

Postpartum Care

Postpartum care is an important part of mother and baby well-being. We will meet with you approximately six weeks after birth to ensure you are healing properly, as well as to answer questions or address any issues that you may have.

Infertility

We offer infertility treatment including diagnosis, evaluation and care. We will review your medical history, perform an exam and offer any testing to help with the cause of your infertility. We offer safe and effective treatment for infertility. This can include lifestyle changes, medication therapy, surgery and artificial insemination.

Minimally Invasive Hysterectomy

With vaginal hysterectomy, your surgeon detaches the uterus from the ovaries, fallopian tubes and upper vagina, as well as from the blood vessels and connective tissue that support it. The uterus is then removed through the vagina.

With laparoscopic hysterectomy, your surgeon operates through a few small incisions using long instruments and a tiny camera to guide doctors during surgery.

Incontinence

It is important for you to know that you are not alone; women of all ages may find themselves dealing with incontinence. In fact, incontinence affects 20-30 percent of younger women, 30-40 percent of middle age women, and 40-50 percent of older women. Contrary to what you may believe, incontinence is not a normal result of childbirth or a natural part of aging. In many cases incontinence can be cured, and if not, it can usually be managed.

There are several types of incontinence, and proper diagnosis is critical to successfully treating the condition. The more common forms are:

  • Stress incontinence: Unintentional leakage of urine, typically occurring with cough, sneeze or strenuous activity.
  • Urge incontinence: A strong, uncontrollable urge to empty the bladder, followed by an unintentional leakage of urine.

There are a variety of treatment options, including physical therapy, biofeedback, medication and surgery. Diagnosis and treatments take place in our women-only clinic, where your privacy and comfort are assured.

Treatment for Pelvic Organ Prolapse

Pelvic organ prolapse is a medical condition in which the uterus or bladder has slipped or fallen. This can occur when the ligaments that hold the organs to the pelvic wall become too weak to hold them in place. Prolapse is a common condition, and there are several available and effective treatments. Physical therapy, pessaries and surgery are viable options. Our providers will partner with you to develop a customized care plan that will endeavor to improve your health and quality of life.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy provides treatment interventions for pelvic pain, incontinence, pelvic floor weakness, pregnancy and postpartum. Your provider will work closely with the physical therapist to design a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.
