An electrophysiologist (or cardiac electrophysiologist) is a specialized cariologist or doctor who acts as an "electrician for your heart." They diagnose and treat heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias) by managing the heart's electrical system, which controls how and when the heart beats.

Electrophysiologists specialize in treating arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, ventricular tachycardia and others.
