Cindy Melcher 2019 Caring Kind Recipient
November, 1, 2019

Beatrice Community Hospital Registered Nurse and House Supervisor Cindy Melcher
was among 76 hospital workers honored with this year’s Nebraska Hospital Association’s prestigious
“Caring Kind” award.

The Caring Kind award honors outstanding healthcare employees who have demonstrated compassion for patients, cooperation with co-workers, and dedication to excellence in their job responsibilities.

Hospitals across the state each selected one recipient from within their respective institutions to be recognized at this year’s 40th Caring Kind banquet held during the NHA annual convention.

At BCH, employees are nominated by their co-workers for The Caring Kind recognition. Employees then vote to select the winning nominee who is honored during an organization-wide celebration.

Cindy’s co-workers said in their nomination that: “Cindy is always going above and beyond to make sure all patients are taken care of. She is a great patient advocate. She is also an excellent leader and always leading by example. She has great communication skills and is always there to help the team. Taking the time from fast paced days to review a patient’s medications with them after being dismissed is just one example of the caring, compassionate, and dedicated nurse she is.”

As a house supervisor, Cindy keeps her finger on the pulse of the organization to ensure it operates as smoothly as possible, communicating with all departments and senior executives on a daily basis. She handles nursing staffing and patient admissions, and provides clinical expertise and nursing leadership to the staff.

Cindy joined the BCH nursing team in 1984. She and her husband, Bill, live on an acreage southwest of Fairbury and have five children. Cindy enjoys growing flowers, spending time at rivers and lakes kayaking, and sun bathing. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her human family as well as her animal family of cats, dogs, goats, and horses. She loves sporting events especially when her youngest child who is in his final year of high school is playing in them.
