For Dr. Cody Masters, the newest primary care provider in the Beatrice Family & Internal Medicine Clinic, choosing a career began in high school where he was inspired by his chemistry teachers.

“I knew I wanted to do something with science,” Dr. Masters said. “I had a chemistry teacher in high school who I absolutely adored.”

He started his education with an interest in pharmacy and quickly realized it was not for him. His mother, who worked in radiation therapy, then helped him secure a job shadowing opportunity with a family doctor.

“That’s when I fell in love with family medicine,” Dr. Masters said. “Nothing really beckoned me to do anything else. I knew what I wanted to do.”

He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He completed his medical residency through the UNMC Advanced Family Medicine Training Program.

Beatrice Community Hospital’s commitment to caring for patients is what drew him back to the BCH Family & Internal Medicine Clinic family. He worked as a resident at BCH for a couple of months in 2023 and said the memories of that time stayed with him.

“It was just very impactful,” he said. “I really liked the town, the hospital, the staff, and agreed with the mission of the hospital – this culture that no matter what your job is, everyone is here to take care of patients.”

When the opportunity to return to Beatrice became available, Dr. Masters said he and his wife, Elisa, felt like Beatrice was the right place to call home.

When not in the office, Dr. Masters – a Kearney, Nebraska native – enjoys the relaxation of a great-tasting cup of coffee, listening to an eclectic variety of music and building his physical media collection of movies, DVDs, records and video games.
