Meet Jenny Hanshaw, a pediatric nurse practitioner in our Beatrice Women's and Children's Clinic. Get to know more about Jenny below!
Why did you pursue a career in healthcare?
"I actually always wanted to be a teacher until a friend of mine talked me into getting my CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) at age 16. From then on, I wanted to be a nurse. I worked as a RN (Registered Nurse) in various specialties for several years but always knew I wanted to work with kids. I accepted a position at a pediatric clinic in Lincoln and fell in love with the atmosphere, so I decided to continue my education as a nurse practitioner with my primary focus in pediatrics. I received my pediatric nurse practitioner degree in 2015 and have been with BCH since!"
What do you like about working in pediatrics?
"I love everything about pediatrics! I love watching the kids grow, the funny unpredictable things they say, helping with breastfeeding, chatting with adolescents, and everything in between. I also enjoy getting to know the entire family through the process. Kids present with their own variety of health challenges, and I definitely learn something new every day! It is so rewarding to build relationships and help kids feel comfortable in the healthcare setting. Kids have amazing perspectives and it’s a good reminder to see the beauty in life."
Fun facts about yourself:
"I have three teenage boys of my own so most of my time is spent chasing them around to their many sports and activities! My husband and I are heavily involved in the wrestling club and my boys love all things sports, especially football, baseball, and wrestling! You can usually find me in a gym or on a baseball/football field or watching my oldest grow in his new love of cornhole! I love watching each of them become their own person! I also love plants, both indoor and outdoor, and I’m always looking for a new plant to add to my collection!"
