Dr. Jordan Bowling can remember the exact moment he decided to become a doctor.

He tagged along when his mother took his brother to the doctor to have a wart removed from his finger. The doctor, sensing the 6-year-old’s interest, demonstrated how liquid nitrogen appears to be cold and hot at the same time.

“Right then and there I told my mom I wanted to be a doctor,” Dr. Bowling said.

Dr. Bowling is bringing his curiosity and surgical skill to Beatrice Community Hospital as its newest general surgeon. On April 27, he joined the BCH surgical team of Dr. David Masinter and Physician Assistant Skylar Nowka.

Dr. Bowling, a native of Lincoln, received his medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C., in 2011. It was during his rotations that he discovered his passion for surgery. He completed his residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York and his fellowship at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles/LA County USC. After returning to Nebraska, he has been working in surgery rooms throughout Southeast Nebraska.

“I like being near family,” Dr. Bowling said. “It feels really good to be back home.”

When he learned about the full-time surgeon position at BCH, he said it felt like the right move.

Dr. Bowling and his wife, Sarah, have two children, 6-year-old son Egypt and 2-year-old daughter Elysian. A self-described homebody, Dr. Bowling enjoys spending time with family, and is looking forward to fishing and gardening at his new Beatrice acreage. He also likes to read, especially fantasy and science fiction, has built his own gaming computer, passionately follows Husker football, and enjoys Anime.
