Aimee Brydl selected for DAISY Award
Beatrice Community Hospital recently honored ICU/Acute Care Registered Nurse Aimee Brydl with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
The award is part of The DAISY Foundation's programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.
Brydl is a Registered Nurse, working night shifts in ICU/Acute Care. She was nominated by Anna Fischer, another BCH Registered Nurse. In her nomination, Fischer noted the exceptional care Brydl provides even during times of personal challenges.
Fisher shared: “I've had the honor of working with Aimee for almost nine years now since starting at BCH. … We went through the pandemic together and there were many nights we were partnered up in the COVID unit together. … Shortly after the pandemic at the end of summer 2022 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Not only dealing with the trauma and severe burnout of what medical has gone through, now she was facing cancer. I watched my friend go through surgery, chemo, radiation, all the side effects, all while working on the floor and putting patients and her co-workers first with a fierce determination… There are no words for how proud I am of Aimee or how thankful I am to know her. I couldn't think of someone more deserving of an award than her.”
Brydl was honored at a special presentation on Nov. 18 in Acute Care, surrounded by family and co-workers. She received a bouquet of daisies, a certificate, a pin and the Healer’s Touch sculpture. In the tradition of DAISY Award celebrations everywhere, cinnamon rolls were served in honor of J. Patrick Barnes, for whom The DAISY Foundation and The DAISY Award were founded. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, California, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Barnes died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Barnes and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
“It is an incredible honor to be able to recognize our nursing staff for the phenomenal work they do,” BCH Chief Nursing Officer Tasha Hesman said. “Our partnership with The DAISY Foundation allows our patients and family to recognize the great work our nursing staff does day in and day out.”
BCH presents a nurse with The Daisy Award twice a year.
